Join us for a train excursion over the Historic Raton Pass, through the "Rocky Mountain Land of Enchantment" for a day of curated activities
Event Details
Keeping the rich heritage of train travel alive in Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico, the Colexico Experience offers guests the opportunity to explore the region by passenger rail and offer curated activities along the way.
All trips begin at the Trinidad, Colorado Amtrak platform and offer a morning train ride to Raton, New Mexico followed by several options of activities to keep visitors entertained throughout the day. Please look below to see a list of possible activities.
9:00 AM: Guests arrive at the Trinidad Amtrak Platform and prepare to board Amtrak's Southwest Chief (Please arrive no later than 9:15 AM)
9:24 AM: The Southwest Chief train departs from Trinidad, Colorado bound for Raton, New Mexico. The ride takes roughly one hour. (Food and beverage available for purchase on the train) During the train ride, your Colexico conductor will meet with each guest to help plan out their curated trip while in Raton.
10:25 AM: The Southwest Chief arrives in Raton, New Mexico and guests exit the train.
10:30 AM: Guests are encouraged to explore the Raton Amtrak Depot and surrounding galleries, eateries and shops.
11:00 AM: Guided tour of the Historic Shuler Theater with live musical and/or comedy performance from the stage.
12:00 PM: Lunch break. Guests may pack their own lunch or visit one of Raton's local eateries. (Meals are not included with the Colexico Experience unless purchased as an add-on when tickets are purchased)
1:00 PM: Early Afternoon activities begin. Options include
Visit the Raton History Museum
Swim at the Raton Regional Aquatic Center
Sample beers at the Colfax Ale Cellar
Hike Climax Canyon
Watch a movie at El Raton Theatre
3:00 PM: Late Afternoon Activities Begin. Options include
Historic Building's Walking Tour
Disc Golf at Roundhouse Park
Sample Cocktails at Gate City Craft Bar
Try on outfits at Solano's Boots & Western Wear
Purchase souvenirs and gifts at Pack Rat Gifts
4:15 PM: Guests return to the Raton Amtrak depot and prepare to board Amtrak's Southwest Chief (Please arrive no later than 4:30 PM)
4:41 PM: The Southwest Chief train departs from Raton, New Mexico bound for Trinidad, Colorado. The ride takes roughly one hour. (Food and beverage available for purchase on the train) During the train ride, your Colexico conductor will meet with each guest to ask about their experience and suggest activities for their evening in Trinidad, Colorado.
5:40 PM: The Southwest Chief arrives in Trinidad and guests exit the train.
*** Please note passenger trains do experience delays from time to time. If a train is delayed during your excursion the Colexico Experience will notify guests several hours before the scheduled trip and offer updates. There will be options available to travel to Raton by vehicle or to wait until the delayed train arrives. Options for curated activities in Trinidad and/or Raton will be offered to pass time while waiting for the arrival of a delayed train. Refunds are available upon request if a train is delayed by more than three hours.
